Course description

This hybrid course provides the student with perioperative knowledge and skills adapted to the Operating Room Nurses Association of Canada (ORNAC) Standards. Topic development include communication, documentation, assessment across the lifespan, ethical and legal guidelines, latex allergy, reprocessing and instrument sterilization. Perioperative skills lab includes demonstrations of scrubbing, gowning and gloving, instrumentation, surgical counts and appropriate care of the patient during the surgical procedure. The student is required to successfully complete all clinical skills labs, clinical practice days and theory classes to be successful in this course.
