Course description

This course provides the student with preoperative knowledge and skills, with an introduction to the ORNAC standards. Topics include communication, documentation, assessment across the lifespan, ethical and legal guidelines, latex allergy, reprocessing, and organ and tissue donation. Perioperative skills lab include demonstration of scrubbing, gowning and gloving, instrumentation, surgical counts, and appropriate care of the patient during the surgical procedure. The student is required to successfully complete all clinical skills labs, clinical practice days, and theory classes to be successful in this course.
