Course description

This course for RN’s and RPN’s will cover the fundamental nursing care provided in a hospital-based post-anaesthetic care unit, a surgical day care setting, and/or a unit where anaesthetic agents are administered, for example in an independent health care facility or an oral surgery setting. This course will support additional information required for all nurses caring for patient in the post-operative period including post caesarean birth. Topics will include anaesthetic agents, regional anaesthetics, pre and post anaesthetic assessments, pain control, post-operative emergencies and problems, airway management, IV sedation, and legal and ethical issues in the post anaesthetic care setting, and special PACU considerations for a range of surgical procedures.
