Course description

This course looks broadly at Indigenous arts and culture in Canadian society, through the lens of a holistic Indigenous history and interpretation of historical evidence. In this course, students will be provided with an understanding of the importance of Indigenous visual and creative arts in society by examining how Indigenous artists perceive the world and then interpret that world through their art and culture. Students will gain a view and understanding of the impact on Indigenous culture and art, with an appreciation for the aesthetic values used in examining Indigenous works of art, as well as, having a direct experience in expressing the student’s perceptions in an artistic medium, to enhance their cultural and self-awareness.
