Course description

This course introduces students to the key contemporary themes and topics central to the experiences of Indigenous people in Canada. Though and examination of modern history, this course will trace the impact of colonial policies from Indian residential schooling, the “60’s scoop,” the phenomenon of incarceration, to the millennium scoop. Knowledge gained in the course will be invaluable for students considering a career in which they will be interacting with Indigenous people or, for students seeking to increase their induvial understanding and sensitivity toward Indigenous perspectives. Student will explore key events and Indigenous worldviews with a view to intentionally and respectfully co-creating a vision reconciliation based on renewed relationships.
