Course description

In Canada, suicide is the second leading cause of death for those aged 15-29 (Public Health Agency of Canada, 2016). Within post-secondary institutions, 16% of students have considered suicide and 3% have attempted suicide (NCHA, 2019). Through this in-person course, faculty will gain skills to prevent suicide by noticing the signs, engaging in empathetic conversations, and connecting at risk students with the appropriate safety resources. Participants who successfully complete this course will receive safeTALK certification through LivingWorks. NOTE: Interested participants may be exempt from the in-person learning if they have already completed LivingWorks safeTALK.
