Course description

The Automotive Quality course is focused on providing the training and expertise required for careers with vehicle manufacturers, tier-one suppliers, and other industry employers. The global supply chain management is used as a unifying theme for automotive continuous improvement.In the lecture portion of the course, the students will be introduced to the philosophies of quality management including Deming, Juran, and Crosby, the cost of automotive quality, the automotive quality benchmarking process, the quality function deployment, automotive supplier development, the implementation of quality projects, the dynamics of the quality teams, and quality certification standards such as ISO/TS 1694 in the automotive industry. In the applied portion of the course, the students will learn to continuously improve and optimize automotive industry service and manufacturing operations through the application of automotive quality tools and techniques to address special cause and common cause variation by using 8D, SPC, Lean Six Sigma, Value Stream Mapping.
