Course description

This course is focused on providing the training and expertise required for careers with commercial aviation and aerospace industry manufacturers, tier-one suppliers, and other industry employers. The theme of supply chain management is used as a unifying theme for aerospace quality improvement. Students will be introduced to the philosophies of quality management including Deming, Juran, and Crosby, the cost of quality, the quality benchmarking process, the quality function deployment, supplier development, the implementation of quality projects and the dynamics of the quality teams and quality certification standards such as ISO/TS 1694. In the applied portion of the course, students will learn to continuously improve and optimize commercial aviation and aerospace industry manufacturers operations through the application of Total Quality Management (TQM) and Theory of Constraints (TOC) principles. They will apply quality tools and techniques to address special cause and common cause variation by using 8D, SPC, and Lean Six Sigma.
