About the program

This advanced program helps develop the skills necessary to build solutions based on the Microsoft.NET platform. The .NET platform was created with the Internet in mind. As a result, it fundamentally changes the way applications are developed for the Windows Operating System. Through the Microsoft.NET Framework, the student will use the tools and technologies to develop and deploy scalable and reliable web-based applications. Specific topic areas that will be covered include XML Web Services, ASP.NET, ADO.NET, Microsoft Visual Basic.NET and Microsoft C#.NET.

Program information

All courses must be completed within 4 years of acceptance into the program.

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older.

Note re: admission requirements

  • Students must be able to receive instruction, respond and research in the English language.

Admission procedures

  • Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form.
  • Attach proof of Admission Requirements.
  • Final selection is made following an assessment of the admission requirements.

Program requirements

  • Credit will be given for qualifying courses that were successfully completed up to two (2) years prior to admission into the program.

Program outcomes

  • Demonstrate basic and some advanced features of HTML (Hypertext Markup Language) as used in the design of Web pages.
  • Use the Systems Development Life Cycle with respect to traditional and object oriented methods of analysis and design.
  • Apply the Systems Development Life Cycle to develop solutions to analyze and design automated solutions to business problems.
  • Create interactive Web pages using a scripting language at the client-side of the application.
  • Demonstrate effective use of the Document Object Model and the Windows object through client-side scripting.
  • Discuss the Microsoft.NET Framework including the Common Language Runtime, assemblies and base classes.
  • Use Microsoft's Visual Studio.NET Interactive Development Environment (IDE) to create desktop and web-based applications.
  • Discuss the principles behind server-side scripting.
  • Use ASP.NET to create high performance, programmable web host environment to create web pages dynamically.
  • Use the ASP.NET object model.
  • Create web solutions with ADO.NET to provide access to databases available to the web host.
  • Use the ADO.NET object model.
  • Discuss the technologies (like XML, SOAP, UDDI and WSDL) used to support XML Web services in today's web solutions.
  • Build and demonstrate XML Web service providers.
  • Build and demonstrate how to consume an XML Web service.
