About the program

This part-time program will provide the student with instruction of how to use SolidWorks mechanical design automation software to build parametric models of parts and assemblies and how to make drawings of those parts and assemblies. Advanced sketching and part modeling techniques will be covered including 3D sketches, lofts and sweeps. Included in the program will be the design and documentation process, using the full power of SolidWorks, including Sheet metal, PhotoWorks, Animator, Cosmos XPress, SolidWorks Utilities, 3D Instant Website, 3D Content Central and FeatureWorks. Students will also be doing projects where the focus is on using Solidworks to completely document a project from concept through to finished product.

All courses must be completed within 3 years of acceptance into the program.

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older.

Note re: admission requirements

  • Students must be able to receive instruction, respond and research in the English language.
  • Applicants are advised that the ability to read mechanical drawing is useful for this program.

  • Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form.
  • Attach proof of Admission Requirements.

Program requirements

  • Credit may be given for qualifying courses that were successfully completed up to two (2) years prior to admission into the program.

Program outcomes

  • Use and identify all elements of the SolidWorks Interface.
  • Build parametric models and drawings of parts and assemblies.
  • Complete 3D sketches, lofts and sweeps for part modeling.
  • Use SolidWorks to complete a project from concept through to finished product, including some marketing materials.
  • Use the full power of SolidWorks , including Sheet Metal, PhotoWorks, Animator, Cosmos Xpress, SolidWorks Utilities, 3D Instant Website, 3D content Central and FeatureWorks.
  • Manage the projects using PDMWorks data management software.
