About the program

This program will prepare students for the ever changing industry of Esthetics, whether pursuing a career at a spa/salon or establishing a spa/salon within the field. Completion of this program will provide skills in various treatment techniques with sufficient knowledge of biochemistry, anatomy and theory to implement esthetic treatments and advise industry consumers. The program will stress manipulative skills and the theory to understand the operations of the esthetic industry. Topics include: manicure, pedicure, make-up application, body waxing, spa body treatments and body massage, basic and advanced facials including aromatherapy facial, product knowledge, marketing, equipment knowledge, chemistry applications and business management.

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older.

Note re: admission requirements

  • Students must be able to receive instructions, respond and research in the English language.

Admission procedures

  • Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form.
  • Attach proof of Admission Requirements.
  • Final selection is made following an assessment of the admission requirements.

  • Apply professional make-up for photography, television and fashion purposes

  • Perform body and sugaring techniques

  • Relate the study of anatomy and physiology of the skin to the field of esthetics

  • Perform specialized facial treatments including European facials

  • Apply aromatherapy techniques

  • Describe applications of electrical products in the esthetics industry

  • Recognize, use and recommend appropriate products

  • Perform professional manicures and pedicures

  • Recognize and demonstrate public relations skills, salon operations and management

  • Identify and develop industry sales and promotions techniques

  • Perform acrylic and fiberglass nail applications

  • Define and practice all required hygienic procedures within the field of Esthetics

  • Discuss principles and practices required to operate a small business
