About the program

The graduate of this program will possess a broad range of skills to develop solutions using the Microsoft SQL Server relational database management system. The program is a practical mixture of database administration and development. Topics covered in this program include database design and Structured Query Language, SQL Server installation and maintenance, native SQL Server programming (Transact SQL) and advanced programming using Analysis Services, Integration Services and Reporting Services.

Program information

Students must successfully complete all courses as outlined in the Program Outline. All courses must be completed within three (3) years of acceptance into the program.

Admission requirements

  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD), or equivalent, OR 19 years of age or older

Note re: admission requirements

  • Students must be able to receive instruction, respond and research in the English language

Admission procedures

  • Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form
  • Attach proof of admission requirements

Program requirements

Credit will be given for any qualifying course successfully completed up to two (2) years prior to admission into the program.

Program outcomes

  • Create data mining models.
  • Create programming objects such as, store procedures and user defined functions.
  • Complete a database design process from concept to final implementation.
  • Install and configure various editions of SQL Server 2008 and related services.
  • Perform backups and restore databases.
  • Build web applications to modify and display database records.
  • Develop basic reports to display and leverage database information.
