About the program

This advanced certificate program teaches the additional skills required to supervise/manage skilled trades personnel involved in the operation and maintenance of various building systems. It focuses on energy management in large buildings and design processes for various building systems. Designed for building managers, operators and technicians, this program appeals to anyone employed in the operation, maintenance or management of today's complex buildings. These courses are recognized by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) and the Toronto Building Superintendents Association (TBSA). Upon successful completion of this program students will receive a Conestoga College certificate.

Building Environmental Systems Class I is a Restricted Program.

Program information

All courses must be completed within 2 years of acceptance into the program.

Admission requirements

  • Building Environmental Systems Operator - Class II Certificate or equivalent.

Note re: admission requirements

  • Students must be able to receive instruction, respond and research in the English language.

Admission procedures

  • Submit a completed Conestoga College Program Application Form.
  • Attach proof of Admission Requirements.
  • Final selection is made following an assessment of the admission requirements.

Program outcomes

  • Examine the design process, application and operating characteristics of pipe and air handling systems.

  • Be confident and capable in communicating with contract mechanical engineers.

  • Analyze energy efficiency as it relates to building management, heating and cooling, air handling, lighting and electrical systems and building control systems and apply the concepts of energy efficiency to building management.

  • Discuss appropriate action plans to increase energy efficiency.
