This course explores the specific needs of patients experiencing gastrointestinal (GI) emergencies, including advanced concepts of assessment, pathophysiology of GI, pharmacology and clinical management of a GI crisis. During this course, students will examine abdominal trauma, pain assessment in the emergency department and blood borne diseases related to GI system. Topics on specific abdominal emergencies including: GI bleed, bowel obstruction, gastritis, ulcers, appendicitis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, diverticulitis, esophagitis also will be discussed.
