This course will focus on the properties, characteristics and safe handling practices of the fuels in the industry. Students will be introduced to the laws and codes governing the industry and the framework that supports details of the codes. Students will be introduced to electrical theories, codes, and safety procedures and will be able to describe electrical hazards as they apply to the gas industry. Installation, purging, testing and sizing requirements for piping and tubing will be discussed. Students will discuss gas combustion as it applies to appliances and the requirements surrounding the controls, safeties and venting of gas appliances.Students who successfully complete the course in conjunction with the completion of the Mechanical Techniques Plumbing or Level 1 Plumber Apprenticeship will be eligible to write the TSSA Gas Technician 3 certification exam. The Gas Technician 3 certification is a mandatory requirement for working on residential, commercial or industrial as fired equipment.RESTRICTION: This course is restricted to students enrolled in Mechanical Techniques - Plumbing. #1245 or completion of Level one Plumber Apprenticeship.
