Code: CARD8120

Course description

The career practitioner plays a major role in assisting members of diverse populations to establish career plans and obtain satisfying work. Understanding and respecting diversity is paramount to our roles as counsellors and in this course we will be exploring a variety of client groups including: Aboriginal Peoples, Ex-Offenders, Gender, Immigrants and Older Workers. Students will become aware of the environmental, social, systemic and personal barriers faced by each of these groups and will learn strategies to motivate and assume advocacy roles when working with these clients. Students will become more effective in counselling diverse clients from under-represented populations.
